CD4536 is a programmable timer that comprises 24 ripple binary counter stages. The salient feature of this device is its flexibility. The device can count from 1 to 224 or the first 8 stages can be bypassed to allow an output, selectable by a 4-bit code, from any one of the remaining 16 stages. It canbe driven by an external clock or an RC oscillator that can be constructed using on-chip components. The CD4536 is a popular timer IC due to it’s use in high quality electronic timers for AC/DC appliances. CD4536 has a wide array of features such as high noise immunity and efficient thermal compensation. This IC is very simple to use and can be interfaced directly with CMOS, NMOS & TTL devices.
