The SG90 – 360-degree continuous rotation servo is a compact analog servo, ideal for a variety of applications where space is at a premium. Here's a detailed overview:

Package Includes:

  • 1 SG90 360 Degree Continuous Rotation Servo motor with an attached 9.5″ control cable
  • 3 arms/horns for various interface applications
  • Screws for mounting arms to the servo and mounting the servo

Key Features:

  • Micro size for tight spaces
  • 360-degree continuous rotation
  • Durable nylon gears
  • Analog drive system

Unlike typical servos that can be set to a specific position within a 180 or 360-degree range, these servos rotate continuously in either direction without the ability to stop at a precise position. Think of them more like small DC motors with an integrated motor controller that powers the motor and allows you to start/stop and control the direction.

The gears are made of nylon, and the nominal rotation speed is 120RPM at 5V. The motor can operate at slower speeds, down to about 60RPM, but it may stall more easily at lower speeds. These servos are particularly useful for driving wheels on a micro-robot where space is limited or for any application where continuous rotation is needed.

These servos are controlled by a PWM signal. A pulse width of approximately 1500uS (PWM value of about 185) will stop the motor. A higher PWM value above 195 will rotate the motor in one direction, while a lower PWM value below 175 will rotate it in the opposite direction. If the PWM value drops below about 500uSec (PWM value of 62), the motor will stop due to insufficient drive.

When using the Servo.h library, a command of about 90 will stop the motor. A value of 0 will cause it to turn in one direction at full speed, and a value of 180 will cause it to turn in the other direction at full speed.

Motor Connections: The built-in cable has a 3-pin female connector that is typically mated with a male header.
