Descrition: TCRT5000 Reflective Optical Sensor

The TCRT5000 and TCRT5000L are reflective sensors which include an infrared emitter and phototransistor in a leaded package which blocks visible light. The package includes two mounting clips. TCRT5000L is the long lead version. The TCRT5000(L) has a compact construction where the emitting-light source and the detector are arranged in the same direction to sense the presence of an object by using the reflective IR beam from the object. The detector consists of a phototransistor.

Application Circuit:

Infrared Reflector consists of 2 parts : The emitter and detector. The application circuit shows the functionality of the module. The transmitter shoots out Infrared light which bounces off any surface. The detector captures this light and indicated on the output pin.

This module can act as an analog sensor, or a digital sensor depending on the application requirement. Output voltage from the module is between 0v to 5V and proportional to received beam of light. You can either use a microcontroller to detect analog range or use an Operational amplifier to convert analog voltage into digital voltage.
