How to use Azelec Cream
This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the cream. Wash your hands after applying, unless hands are the affected area.
How Azelec Cream works
Azelaic acid works by killing the acne-causing bacteria and reduces inflammation (redness and swelling) of the skin.
What if you forget to take Azelec Cream?
If you miss a dose of Azelec Cream, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.
Quick Tips
  • Apply it precisely only over the affected area. If irritation happens, stop using it and consult your doctor.
  • If you have sensitive skin, you should apply Azelaic acid only once a day for the first week of treatment and then proceed to twice daily applications.
  • Before applying the cream/gel, clean the skin thoroughly with plain water and make it dry.
  • Avoid contact with eyes, mouth or other inner skin layers (mucous membranes). In case of accidental contact, wash immediately with large amounts of cold water.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Administration
Cleanse affected area with mild soap or soapless cleansing lotion and pat dry before applying. Apply thinly into the affected areas bid (morning and evening) after cleansing.
Adult Dose
Topical Acne vulgaris Adult: As 20% cream: Apply into the affected areas bid (morning and evening). Improvement may be detectable w/n 4 wk. Duration of treatment: Up to 6 mth. Topical Rosacea Adult: Apply into the affected areas bid (morning and evening). Improvement occurs in 4-8 wk.

Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
Mode of Action
Azelaic acid is a naturally-occurring aliphatic dicarboxylic acid. The exact mechanism of action in treatment of acne vulgaries has not been fully established. It is believed to inhibit the growth of susceptible organisms (mainly Propionibacteria Acnes) on the skin surface, and inhibits follicular keratinisation thus restricts the development of comedones. Mechanism of action in the treatment of rosacea is unknown.
Precaution
Pregnancy, lactation. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth or other mucous membranes. Occlusive dressings or wrappings should not be used. Recommend patient to use only very mild soaps or soapless cleansing lotions for facial washing. Monitor for hypopigmentation in patients with dark complexion.
